Code of Conduct
Being a Hornet Athlete is both a privilege and a responsability.

Playing on a team requires all athletes to participate both physically and mentally at all times.  Supporting each other is the core of teamwork.  Parents and Coaches are also an integral force in making this happen. All are expected to respect and abide by the code of conduct.

 All athletes are expected to: 

1.    Be personally committed to themselves and their team.

a.    Physically, mentally and nutritionally.

b.    Each player will give 100% effort in practice and in competition.

c.    Be responsible for ones actions.

2.    Thoroughly understand and uphold the rules of the game.

a.    Rules for Officiating (i.e. Tennis shoes must be worn, no food, no cell phones or electronic devices, only those assigned to work should be at the designated location.)

3.    Demonstrate good sportsmanship.

a.    Athletes are to mentor and support their teammates regardless of the team they are on, both on and off the court.
 

4.    Show courtesy and respect to coaches, teammates, officials, visiting teams

and drivers at all times.

5.    Represent yourself, your parents, your school and community with proper conduct at all times, on or off the court.

a.    Alcohol, tobacco and any types of drugs are strictly prohibited.

b.   Public display of affection is prohibited during any volleyball event.

c.    The uses of social internet sites are cautioned.

d.    Clean up any and all areas that have been designated for our use (i.e. Tournaments, School Buses, Locker Rooms, Bleachers, etc.).

6.    Attend all practices, games and tournaments.

a.    Athletes are required to ride the bus with the team both to and from an event (when provided).  Those that don’t, will not be eligible to play unless approval has been received from their coach.

b.    Support all teams by remaining in the gym while matches are in play, both home and away, unless approval to leave prior to an events completion has been received from their coach.

c.    Follow the WHS Volleyball attendance policy*.

7.    Volunteer their time back into the WHS volleyball program (i.e. MS Camp, Elementary Clinic, Tournaments, Fundraisers, etc.).

8.    Refrain from the use of cell phones during any match, regardless of the team playing and/or when assigned to work an event.

a.    Cell phone use will be determined under the coach’s discretion.

9.    Maintain academic eligibility.

10. Follow all rules in the Williamston High School athletic handbook.


All team captains are expected to:

1.    Set a positive example for their teammates.

2.    Ensure that all areas designated for our use have been cleaned before leaving an event.

3.    Lead effective warm-ups.

4.    Assist coaches when asked.

All parents are expected to:

1.    Support the volleyball program.

a.    Volunteer ones time by participating in fundraisers, boosters, volleyball events.

b.    Work assigned event as scheduled.

c.    Ensure assigned food/drink items are at the scheduled event.

 

2.    Support the athletes physically and emotionally.

a.    Ensure athletes are well rested before an event.

b.    Ensure athletes are respecting their bodies (i.e. eating properly, keeping hydrated, exercising, etc.), both on and off the court.

c.    Give positive reinforcement to athletes.

3.    Show courtesy and respect to coaches, teammates, officials, visiting teams and drivers at all times.

a.    Refrain from undermining the authority of the coach.

b.    Refrain from entering the court, standing on the sidelines, or yelling instructions to the coach or athletes.

c.    Refrain from using degrading language.

d.    Follow the program guidelines** when speaking with a coach about their player.

      4.    Follow all rules in the Williamston High School athletic handbook.

 

 All coaches are expected to:

1.    Communicate effectively with players, parents and other coaches. (I.e. Schedule changes, volleyball events, etc.)

a.    Information will also be posted to the www.whsvolleyball.net website.

2.    Communicate with classroom teachers to minimize academic interruptions.

3.    At all times coaches will be a positive reflection of our athletes, program and school.

4.    Conduct the program with the highest level of integrity and ethics.

5.    Refrain from the use of degrading language. 
 

6.    Show courtesy and respect to coaches, teammates, officials, visiting teams and drivers at all times.

7.    Ensure that the health and well-being of the athlete take precedence over playing.

8.    Mentor coaches and athletes.

9.    Promote unity amongst all teams individually and as a program.

 
All boosters are expected to:

1.    Financially support the WHS volleyball program through fundraisers (i.e. concessions, hosted tournaments, camps, clinics, etc) .

2.    Assign a Team Rep for all teams (Freshman, JV and Varsity).

a.    Team Rep is responsible to attend booster meetings and relay information to team parents.

b.    Assist coaches if needed.

3.    Conduct regular meetings with recorded minutes.

4.    Organize Senior Night, Parent Night, WHS Tournaments and Season Banquet.

5.    Run and maintain the www.whsvolleyball.net website.

6.    Show courtesy and respect to coaches, teammates, officials, visiting teams and drivers at all times.

7.    Conduct the organization with the highest level of integrity and ethics.

 

 *Attendance policy  

All players are expected to attend all mandatory practices, matches, banquets, and other scheduled team activities.  If player is not in school the day of the mandatory activity, then they are excused from that activity.  If player is not going to be at a mandatory activity, the coach must be notified as far in advance as possible to ensure that proper preparations are made for the rest of the team.  If a player misses without proper notification it is considered an unexcused absence.  The following penalties apply for unexcused absences:

  1. First unexcused absence = Miss the next match
  2. Second unexcused absence = Miss the next two matches
  3. Third unexcused absence = Dropped from the team

**Policy for talking with coaching staff

Players and parents are to wait 24 hours before approaching coaches regarding any athlete/game issue.  Players must first come to the coach to try and resolve any matters.  Parents are to call and or email the coach for a meeting to discuss any unresolved matters.
